Rick and Doris Bowman from the Bowman Consulting Group share how to turn our decidedly NOT trauma-informed Functional Behavior Assessments into true healing plans. And they leave us with one thing we can do right now to make a difference!
They will be presenting at the Bridging to Resilience virtual conference November 12-13. Learn more about how to get involved! Your Functional Behavior Assessment is a Fantasy: Creating Truly Trauma-Informed FBAs and Behavior Plans Stop chasing “temporary compliance” and start building regulation, resilience & skills! Traditional approaches to behavioral change using conventional FBA’s/Behavior Support Plans have long fallen short, and continue to fail children to whom they're applied most. With assumptions about the “why” of behavior based in kids wanting to “get” or “avoid,” they’ve left us with little to do but attempt to externally motivate through rewards and consequences. Come learn how evidence-based approaches, pediatric neuroscience, and the latest resilience research can inform the creation and use of FBAs and Behavior Plans that are trauma-informed, brain-based and skill-focused, and ultimately produce lasting resilience.
